grass and rye pollens allergoids (Allergopharma)

Allergovit is a subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (SCIT) product developed by Allergopharma, consisting of chemically modified allergen extracts (allergoids) derived from grass and rye pollens. The formulation typically contains a mixture of 80% grass pollen and 20% rye pollen allergoids, which are adsorbed onto aluminium hydroxide to act as an adjuvant and provide a depot effect. The chemical modification, usually achieved through treatment with aldehydes like glutaraldehyde, reduces the IgE-binding capacity (allergenicity) of the extracts while preserving their ability to induce a protective immune response (immunogenicity). This modification allows for the administration of higher allergen doses with a lower risk of systemic allergic reactions. Allergovit is indicated for the treatment of IgE-mediated seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. The therapy aims to modify the underlying allergic disease by inducing immunological tolerance, characterized by the production of protective IgG4 blocking antibodies and the modulation of T-cell responses.
