Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The grass pollen + olive tree pollen vaccine is an allergen immunotherapy (AIT) developed by Inmunotek S.L., specifically formulated for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and controlled allergic asthma. This vaccine utilizes polymerized allergen extracts, known as allergoids, which are created by treating natural pollen extracts from various grasses (typically a 5-grass mix including *Phleum pratense*) and olive tree (*Olea europaea*) with glutaraldehyde. This chemical modification reduces the allergen's IgE-binding capacity, thereby minimizing the risk of systemic allergic reactions during administration, while preserving the T-cell epitopes necessary for inducing immune tolerance. The vaccine works by promoting a shift from a Th2-dominated immune response to a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) response, leading to the production of blocking antibodies like IgG4 and the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10. It is available in different delivery formats, including the sublingual spray Oraltek and the subcutaneous depot injection Alunitek.
