Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GSK's 4-component Group A Streptococcus vaccine (alum) is an investigational protein-based vaccine developed by GSK for the prevention of Group A Streptococcal (Strep A) infections. The vaccine is composed of four synthetic peptides derived from *Streptococcus pyogenes* antigens and is formulated with an aluminum hydroxide (alum) adjuvant to enhance the immune response. It is currently in Phase 1 clinical development, where it is being evaluated for safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity in healthy young adults. The vaccine aims to provide broad protection against various manifestations of Strep A, including pharyngitis and invasive disease, while potentially preventing severe post-streptococcal sequelae such as rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease.
