Overview

This is a combination therapeutic approach for HIV treatment that combines two different HIV vaccine candidates with an immunotherapy drug. The GTU-MultiHIV B-clade vaccine is a DNA vaccine encoding a MultiHIV B clade fusion protein targeting cellular immune responses. MVA HIV-B is a viral vector-based vaccine containing genetic sequences of HIV Clade B genes (gag, pol, and nef) within a Modified Vaccinia Ankara vector. Vedolizumab is a monoclonal antibody being investigated for its potential to impede HIV replication by blocking integrin α4β7, an important receptor on CD4+ T-cells. This combination approach is designed to enhance immune responses against HIV while protecting CD4+ T-cells from infection, potentially allowing for control of viral replication following interruption of antiretroviral therapy.
