Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gualou Xiebai Banxia Decoction + Danshen Decoction is a combination of two traditional Chinese medicine formulas used primarily for cardiovascular diseases. The main formula, Gualou Xiebai Banxia Decoction, dates back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD) and was first documented in the "Synopsis of the Golden Chamber" by Zhang Zhongjing. It contains three main herbs: Gualou (Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim.), Xiebai (Allium macrostemon), and Banxia (Pinellia ternata), traditionally prepared with white wine. When combined with Danshen Decoction (containing Salvia miltiorrhiza), the formula has enhanced effects for promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm, which are important therapeutic principles in treating conditions like coronary heart disease and chest pain. Research suggests it works through multiple mechanisms including improving lipid profiles, enhancing blood circulation, protecting against myocardial ischemia, reducing oxidative stress, and modulating the PI3K/Akt/eNOS signaling pathway.
