A preclinical-stage, gut-directed small molecule NLRP3 antagonist developed by IFM Therapeutics (through its subsidiary IFM Tre) and acquired by Novartis. This compound is specifically designed to target the NLRP3 (NOD-, LRR- and pyrin domain-containing 3) inflammasome locally within the gastrointestinal tract while maintaining low systemic penetration. By selectively inhibiting NLRP3 activity in the gut, the drug aims to reduce the chronic intestinal inflammation characteristic of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, while minimizing potential systemic side effects. The program was part of a 2019 acquisition by Novartis to expand its portfolio of innate immune system modulators.
