Overview

The H1N1 influenza A vaccine (split virion, inactivated) from Changchun Changsheng Biological Life Science Institute is a monovalent prophylactic vaccine designed to induce protective immunity against the H1N1 strain of the influenza A virus. It is produced using an inactivated split-virion platform, where the virus is grown (typically in embryonated chicken eggs), inactivated, and then chemically treated to disrupt the viral structure into smaller components. This process aims to maintain the immunogenicity of key surface antigens, such as hemagglutinin and neuraminidase, while reducing the risk of adverse reactions compared to whole-virus vaccines. Historically, this vaccine was part of China's immunization efforts during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. However, the developer, Changchun Changsheng, was at the center of a major vaccine quality scandal in 2018 involving the falsification of production data for other products. This led to the revocation of the company's pharmaceutical production licenses, the imposition of massive fines, and the company's eventual bankruptcy and liquidation, resulting in the discontinuation of all its vaccine products.
