H5 influenza vaccine-Sanofi-respiratory syncytial virus-influenza A(H5N1) refers to a set of investigational mRNA-based vaccine candidates developed by Sanofi to target avian influenza A(H5N1) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). These candidates were evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT05430620) to assess the safety and immunogenicity of various formulations. The vaccines function by delivering mRNA encoding specific viral proteins—the hemagglutinin (H5) protein for the influenza component and a monovalent antigen (typically the fusion protein) for the RSV component—into host cells, which then produce the antigens to trigger an immune response. This program leverages Sanofi's mRNA platform, which was significantly expanded through the acquisition of Translate Bio, and aims to address both pandemic influenza preparedness and the prevention of RSV-related respiratory disease.
