Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The H5N1 influenza vaccine (Indonesia strain) + AS03 is a monovalent, inactivated, split-virion prepandemic vaccine developed by GSK. It is specifically designed to provide protection against the H5N1 subtype of the influenza A virus, utilizing the A/Indonesia/05/2005 strain as the antigenic component. The vaccine is formulated with the AS03 adjuvant system, a proprietary oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, DL-α-tocopherol, and polysorbate 80. AS03 is known to enhance the magnitude and breadth of the immune response, enabling dose-sparing strategies and potentially offering cross-protection against drifted H5N1 strains. This vaccine has been evaluated in clinical trials for its safety and immunogenicity, particularly in prime-boost regimens, and is part of pandemic preparedness efforts. It is marketed under the brand name Adjupanrix in the European Union.
