Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GSK1562902A is a monovalent, inactivated, split-virion H5N1 influenza vaccine developed by GSK for pandemic preparedness. It is formulated with the AS03 adjuvant system, an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene and alpha-tocopherol, which enhances the magnitude and breadth of the immune response while enabling significant dose-sparing. The vaccine is designed to provide active immunization against the H5N1 subtype of the Influenza A virus, which is considered a high-risk pathogen for potential human pandemics. Clinical development, including Phase 3 studies, has focused on evaluating the lot-to-lot consistency of its immunogenicity and safety profile in healthy adults, ensuring that large-scale manufacturing can reliably produce effective vaccine batches.
