Drug intelligence / Profile preview
H5N8 antigen + AS03A is an investigational, inactivated monovalent influenza vaccine candidate composed of the hemagglutinin (HA) antigen from the avian influenza A/H5N8 virus formulated with the adjuvant system AS03A. The vaccine is designed to induce protective immune responses against H5N8 and potentially other related H5 clade viruses. The AS03A adjuvant is an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, DL-α-tocopherol (vitamin E), and polysorbate 80, which enhances both humoral and cellular immune responses while enabling dose sparing of the viral antigen[1][2][5]. This combination aims to provide robust immunogenicity, including cross-clade antibody responses, making it a potential tool for pandemic preparedness against zoonotic avian influenza strains such as H5N8[2][5]. Clinical studies are ongoing to evaluate its safety and immunogenicity in adults[5].
