Overview

H7N9 antigen + adjuvant IB160 is a combination vaccine candidate designed for the prevention of infection by influenza A subtype H7N9. The formulation consists of an inactivated split-virus H7N9 influenza antigen combined with the oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant IB160, which is squalene-based. The addition of the IB160 adjuvant significantly enhances immunogenicity, enabling a stronger immune response and allowing for dose-sparing—meaning lower amounts of viral antigen are needed to achieve protective immunity compared to non-adjuvanted vaccines. This approach is particularly valuable for pandemic preparedness, as it increases vaccine production efficiency and coverage during outbreaks. Clinical studies have shown that this combination induces higher hemagglutination inhibition (HI) titers and seroconversion rates than non-adjuvanted formulations, with a safety profile similar to other inactivated influenza vaccines[1][2][3][6].
