Overview

H7N9 LAIV is a monovalent live-attenuated influenza vaccine developed by the Research Institute of Influenza (RII) in Saint Petersburg, Russia, for pandemic preparedness against the H7N9 avian influenza virus. The vaccine candidate, specifically the A/17/Hong Kong/2017/75108 (H7N9) strain, is a reassortant virus produced using the cold-adapted A/Leningrad/134/17/57 (H2N2) master donor strain. It contains the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) genes from the A/Hong Kong/125/2017 (H7N9) wild-type virus. Administered intranasally, the vaccine is designed to mimic natural infection and stimulate a broad immune response, including mucosal IgA, systemic IgG, and T-cell mediated immunity, without causing the disease itself.
