H7N9 LAIV + Inactivated H7N9 Vaccine is a monovalent prime-boost vaccine regimen developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for the prevention of disease caused by the H7N9 subtype of Influenza A virus. The regimen consists of a live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV), which is a 6:2 reassortant virus containing the hemagglutinin and neuraminidase genes from the A/Anhui/1/2013 (H7N9) strain on a cold-adapted A/Ann Arbor/6/60 backbone, followed by a boost with an inactivated subvirion H7N9 vaccine. This strategy is designed to elicit a comprehensive immune response, including mucosal, cellular, and systemic antibody components, to protect against avian influenza viruses with pandemic potential. The LAIV component is delivered intranasally to mimic natural infection and stimulate local immunity, while the inactivated component is typically delivered intramuscularly to enhance the systemic neutralizing antibody response.
