Overview

The H7N9 live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) is a monovalent vaccine developed by the Research Institute of Influenza in Russia for the prevention of infection by the H7N9 subtype of the influenza A virus. The vaccine utilizes the A/17/Anhui/2013/61 (H7N9) reassortant strain, which incorporates the surface antigens (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase) from the avian-origin A/Anhui/1/2013 (H7N9) virus into the cold-adapted, temperature-sensitive A/Leningrad/134/17/57 (H2N2) master donor virus backbone. Administered intranasally, the vaccine is designed to replicate in the cooler environment of the nasopharynx, inducing a broad immune response including mucosal IgA and systemic antibodies, as well as T-cell mediated immunity, without causing systemic illness. It has undergone Phase I clinical evaluation to assess its safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
