Overview

Haemophilus B Conjugate Vaccine is a biological product used to induce active immunity against invasive diseases caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib). The vaccine consists of the Hib capsular polysaccharide, polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP), which is covalently linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein such as tetanus toxoid or meningococcal outer membrane protein. This conjugation converts the polysaccharide from a T-cell independent antigen to a T-cell dependent antigen, significantly enhancing its immunogenicity in infants and immunocompromised individuals. In the context of clinical research sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), such as the ACTG 5136 study, the Hib vaccine is frequently utilized as a standardized neoantigen or recall antigen to evaluate the functional recovery of the immune system in HIV-1 infected patients receiving intensified antiretroviral therapy (ART).
