A monovalent conjugate vaccine used for the prevention of invasive diseases caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib), such as meningitis, pneumonia, and epiglottitis. The vaccine consists of the Hib capsular polysaccharide, polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP), which is chemically conjugated to a carrier protein (such as CRM197 in the case of Vaxem Hib) to enhance its immunogenicity, particularly in infants and young children. This conjugation process converts the polysaccharide from a T-cell independent to a T-cell dependent antigen, allowing for the induction of immunological memory and a more robust antibody response. Originally developed by companies like Novartis (Vaxem Hib), these vaccines are now standard components of pediatric immunization schedules worldwide.
