Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a **combination vaccine** comprised of two conjugate vaccines: - **Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate vaccine (tetanus toxoid conjugate)**: Induces immunity against invasive disease caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b, a significant cause of childhood morbidity and mortality including meningitis, pneumonia, epiglottitis, and septic arthritis. The mechanism is based on induction of antigen-specific immune responses to the PRP (polyribosylribitol phosphate) capsule of Hib, facilitated by conjugation to tetanus toxoid, which enables T-cell dependent immunogenicity and long-lasting protection[1][2][3][4][5][6]. - **Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (serogroups C and Y, tetanus toxoid conjugate)**: Induces immunity to *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups C and Y, which can cause bacterial meningitis and septicemia. This component similarly uses capsular polysaccharides from the relevant serogroups conjugated to tetanus toxoid, stimulating T-cell dependent immune responses and generation of immunological memory. The combined formulation is designed to protect against invasive diseases caused by both Hib and *N. meningitidis* serogroups C and Y in pediatric populations.
