Overview

This combination vaccine is designed to provide active immunization against invasive disease caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib) and infection caused by all known subtypes of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The Hib component consists of the purified capsular polysaccharide (polyribosylribitol phosphate, PRP) of *H. influenzae* type b, which is covalently linked to an outer membrane protein complex (OMPC) of *Neisseria meningitidis* to enhance immunogenicity in infants. The hepatitis B component contains purified surface antigen (HBsAg) produced by recombinant DNA technology in *Saccharomyces cerevisiae*. By presenting these antigens to the immune system, the vaccine stimulates the production of specific protective antibodies (anti-PRP and anti-HBs). It was primarily indicated for infants born to HBsAg-negative mothers, starting at 6 weeks of age.
