Drug intelligence / Profile preview
halobetasol + salicylic acid is a topical combination ointment developed by Vanan Pharma, currently featured in their innovation pipeline. The formulation combines halobetasol propionate, a super-potent (Class I) corticosteroid, with salicylic acid, a keratolytic agent. This combination is primarily intended for the treatment of inflammatory and hyperkeratotic dermatological conditions, such as plaque psoriasis. Halobetasol exerts its therapeutic effect by activating cytoplasmic glucocorticoid receptors, which leads to the suppression of inflammatory cytokines and mediators. Salicylic acid acts as a desquamating agent by softening and shedding the stratum corneum; this action not only treats hyperkeratosis but also significantly improves the percutaneous absorption of the corticosteroid into the skin.
