Overview

Haloperidol + lidocaine is a non-standard, unbranded combination of two established drugs—haloperidol, a first-generation (typical) antipsychotic, and lidocaine, an amide-type local anesthetic. Haloperidol acts primarily as a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist in the central nervous system and is used to treat schizophrenia, acute psychosis, agitation, Tourette syndrome tics, and other severe behavioral disorders[1][9]. Lidocaine blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes to inhibit nerve impulse conduction and is widely used for local or regional anesthesia by infiltration or nerve block techniques[3]. There are no widely recognized fixed-dose combination products of these two agents; if co-administered (for example during procedures requiring both sedation/antipsychotic effect and local anesthesia), their effects are additive on the central nervous system. Coadministration may increase risks such as CNS depression (drowsiness, confusion), impaired judgment or psychomotor skills[2][10].
