Overview
Haporine-S is an ophthalmic nanoemulsion formulation of cyclosporine developed by DH Bio Co., Ltd. for the treatment of moderate to severe dry eye disease (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). Cyclosporine is a calcineurin inhibitor that acts as an immunosuppressant by inhibiting T-cell activation and decreasing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. By reducing inflammation on the ocular surface and in the lacrimal glands, it helps to increase tear production in patients whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation. Haporine-S was evaluated in a Phase III clinical trial in South Korea to demonstrate non-inferiority to the reference product, Restasis, and subsequently received regulatory approval in South Korea.
