Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HBAI20 is an investigational prophylactic vaccine developed by CyTuVax BV for the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, specifically targeting individuals who do not respond adequately to standard hepatitis B vaccines. The vaccine is a combination of the licensed HBVaxPro-10 µg (containing recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen, HBsAg) and a novel adjuvant called AI20. AI20 consists of recombinant human interleukin-2 (IL-2) adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide (alum), which creates a depot at the injection site. This depot allows for the slow, sustained release of IL-2, which acts as an immunostimulant to enhance the T-cell and B-cell responses to the HBsAg antigen. In Phase 2 clinical trials, HBAI20 demonstrated significantly higher seroprotection rates in previous non-responders compared to standard vaccination.
