Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HBsAg + AS03 is an investigational protein subunit vaccine developed by GSK for the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The vaccine consists of the recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) combined with the AS03 Adjuvant System, an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene and DL-α-tocopherol (vitamin E). AS03 is designed to enhance the immune response by modulating cytokine production and improving antigen loading in monocytes, potentially providing superior immunogenicity compared to traditional aluminum-based adjuvants. The vaccine has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials (e.g., NCT00805389) in healthy HBV-naïve adults to assess its safety and ability to induce high antibody responses.
