Overview
HBV vaccine + aqueous cream is a control intervention used in clinical research, specifically in trial NCT02621112. In this study, aqueous cream serves as a topical placebo pretreatment applied to the skin five minutes prior to the intramuscular injection of a hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine. The combination was designed to maintain blinding in studies evaluating the efficacy of topical immunomodulators, such as imiquimod, as adjuvants to improve the immunogenicity of HBV vaccination in populations with poor vaccine response, such as patients with end-stage renal disease on dialysis. The aqueous cream itself is an inert emollient with no active pharmaceutical ingredients, while the HBV vaccine is a standard prophylactic agent containing recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).
