Hedera helix + Pelargonium sidoides

HLIM (SA16002), marketed as Hebron-P Syrup, is a fixed-dose combination herbal medicine developed by SamA Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd for the treatment of respiratory symptoms. It combines extracts from *Hedera helix* (ivy leaf) and *Pelargonium sidoides* (African geranium). *Hedera helix* extract contains saponins, such as alpha-hederin, which act as a mucolytic and expectorant by inhibiting the internalization of beta-2 adrenergic receptors, thereby promoting bronchodilation and reducing mucus viscosity. *Pelargonium sidoides* extract provides antiviral, antibacterial, and immunomodulatory effects by inhibiting viral attachment and stimulating macrophage activity. The combination is indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough and sputum in patients with acute upper respiratory tract infections or acute bronchitis. It was approved in South Korea in 2020 following a Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT03827590) that demonstrated its efficacy and safety compared to its individual components and placebo.
