Helenalin + hyaluronic acid is a topical combination formulation containing helenalin, a sesquiterpene lactone derived from Arnica montana, and hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan. Helenalin exhibits anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antibacterial, and anti-protozoal activities primarily through selective inhibition of the transcription factor NF-κB and induction of oxidative stress in target cells. It also inhibits platelet aggregation by interacting with sulfhydryl groups on platelets. Hyaluronic acid acts as a lubricant and shock absorber with antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects; it supports tissue hydration, wound healing, joint lubrication, and ocular surface protection. The combination has been studied for topical ophthalmic use to modulate matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) activity in the eye while enhancing ocular surface health[1][5]. This formulation is not FDA-approved but has shown good safety profiles in preliminary studies.
