Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Henagliflozin + retagliptin** is an oral fixed-dose combination therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Henagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by reducing renal glucose reabsorption, promoting urinary glucose excretion. Retagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that enhances the incretin system by inhibiting DPP-4, thereby increasing endogenous levels of active glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), which stimulate insulin secretion and inhibit glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. The combination has shown superior glycemic efficacy compared to either agent alone in patients inadequately controlled with metformin, with added benefits on body weight and systolic blood pressure. No severe hypoglycemia was noted in studies[1][5]. Both drugs are being developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine.
