The hepatitis B DNA vaccine is an experimental therapeutic candidate being developed by AnGes, Inc. in collaboration with Osaka University for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. Utilizing AnGes's proprietary DNA vaccine platform, the drug consists of a plasmid DNA vector designed to express specific hepatitis B virus (HBV) antigens within host cells. Upon administration, the plasmid enters the cells and triggers the production of viral proteins, which are then presented to the immune system to induce a robust, multi-specific immune response. This approach aims to overcome the immune exhaustion and tolerance characteristic of chronic HBV infection, stimulating both cytotoxic T-lymphocyte activity and antibody production to facilitate viral clearance and achieve a functional cure. As of 2024, the project remains in the preclinical research phase.
