hepatitis B immune globulin + lamivudine is a combination therapy used primarily for prophylaxis and prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) recurrence after liver transplantation and in high-risk patients. - **Hepatitis B immune globulin** is a biologic product containing high-titer antibodies (anti-HBs) derived from human plasma, which provides passive immunization by neutralizing circulating HBV particles and preventing infection of hepatocytes. - **Lamivudine** is a small molecule antiviral and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that inhibits HBV DNA replication by competitively inhibiting HBV polymerase, leading to decreased viral replication. The combined approach leverages both passive immunization (immediate protection) and antiviral suppression, significantly reducing the risk of HBV recurrence post-liver transplantation, even among patients with high viral loads or drug resistance. Use of lower-dose HBIG (intramuscular or intravenous) in combination with lamivudine is effective and may be more cost-efficient than high-dose HBIG alone[1][2][4].
