Hepatitis B surface antigen + Advax is a prophylactic and potentially therapeutic vaccine candidate developed by Vaxine Pty Ltd for the prevention and treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The vaccine utilizes a recombinant HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) combined with Advax, a proprietary adjuvant made of semi-crystalline delta inulin microparticles. Advax is designed to enhance the immune response by stimulating both humoral (antibody) and cellular (CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell) immunity, producing a balanced Th1/Th2/Th17 cytokine profile. This approach aims to overcome the limitations of traditional alum-adjuvanted vaccines, particularly in populations with impaired immune responses, such as the elderly or those with chronic conditions like renal impairment or diabetes. Clinical trials have demonstrated that the Advax-adjuvanted formulation is safe and significantly more immunogenic than HBsAg alone, achieving higher seroprotection rates and antibody titers.
