Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) vaccine + AS37A adjuvant system is an investigational recombinant protein subunit vaccine developed by GSK for the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The vaccine consists of 20 μg of recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen formulated with 100 μg of GSK's proprietary Adjuvant System 37A (AS37A). AS37A is a novel adjuvant system composed of a Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) agonist adsorbed on aluminum hydroxide (alum). This combination is designed to enhance the immune response, potentially providing high concentrations of antigen-specific antibodies after a single injection and offering a more rapid or robust protective response compared to traditional alum-only vaccines. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I/IIa clinical trials (NCT05561673) to assess safety and immunogenicity in healthy, HBs-naïve adults.
