Overview

The hepatitis b vaccine is a recombinant subunit vaccine designed to provide active immunity against infection caused by all known subtypes of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). In the specific context of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Phase II clinical trial (NCT02863926), it is utilized as a clinical probe to evaluate the efficacy of Glyco-Recombinant Human Interleukin-7 (CYT107) in restoring immune competence in older adults (aged 60 and over) who have recently completed chemotherapy for breast, colon, or bladder cancer. These patients often experience chemotherapy-induced immunosuppression and immunosenescence, which can lead to suboptimal responses to standard vaccinations. The vaccine works by presenting the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) to the immune system, thereby stimulating the production of protective antibodies.
