Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant hepatitis B vaccine is a non-infectious subunit viral vaccine containing the surface antigen (HBsAg) of the hepatitis B virus. It is produced using recombinant DNA technology, typically expressed in yeast (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*). The vaccine works by inducing active immunity, stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against HBsAg to prevent infection by all known subtypes of the hepatitis B virus. PT Bio Farma, in collaboration with the Serum Institute of India (SII), has developed and tested specific formulations (using SII bulk) to ensure immunogenicity and safety in the Indonesian population. It is administered via intramuscular injection and is a cornerstone of global immunization programs for infants and high-risk adults.
