Overview
Bimmugen is a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine containing the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). It is produced using recombinant DNA technology, where the HBsAg gene is expressed in yeast cells (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*). The vaccine is indicated for the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and the prevention of the HBV carrier state. By introducing the HBsAg protein into the body, Bimmugen stimulates the immune system to produce specific neutralizing antibodies (anti-HBs), providing active immunity against future HBV exposure. It was originally developed by The Chemo-Sero-Therapeutic Research Institute (Kaketsuken) and is currently manufactured by KM Biologics and marketed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma in Japan.
