Overview

H-B-VAX II (also known as HBVaxII or Recombivax HB) is a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine developed and manufactured by Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD). It is designed to prevent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection across all age groups, including newborns, infants, children, adolescents, and adults. The vaccine contains purified recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced in yeast (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*) cells, which is adsorbed onto an amorphous aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate adjuvant. Upon intramuscular administration, the HBsAg stimulates the immune system to produce protective anti-HBs antibodies, conferring active immunity against all known subtypes of the hepatitis B virus.
