Overview

Hepatitis B virus vaccine (recombinant) is a non-infectious recombinant protein subunit vaccine used to prevent infection by all known subtypes of the hepatitis B virus. The active component is the purified recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), produced in yeast cells (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*) using recombinant DNA technology. The vaccine stimulates active immunity by inducing specific humoral antibodies against HBsAg; an anti-HBs antibody titre above 10 IU/L correlates with protection from infection. It is indicated for use in individuals of all ages and is a cornerstone of global public health efforts to reduce the incidence and complications of acute and chronic hepatitis B infection[1][2][4][5].
