Overview
The combination of Herba Patriniae (Patrinia villosa) and Coix seed (Coix lacryma-jobi) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation valued for its heat-clearing, phlegm-reducing, antipyretic, and diuretic properties. In TCM philosophy, this combination is used to address damp-heat stagnation and toxicity, which are considered pathogenic factors in diseases such as colorectal cancer. Preliminary studies suggest that the HC combination may have promising efficacy in the treatment of colorectal cancer by acting on multiple signaling pathways including phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/Akt/mTOR), p53, transforming growth factor-β/SMAD, NF-κB, and Wnt/β-catenin. The main active components include polysaccharides from Herba Patriniae and coixenolide/coixol from Coix seed[1][2][4].
