hetrombopag + stanozolol is a combination therapy being investigated for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in patients with low or intermediate-1 risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Hetrombopag is a potent, orally active, small-molecule thrombopoietin receptor (TPO-R) agonist that stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes from bone marrow progenitor cells, thereby increasing platelet production. Stanozolol is a synthetic anabolic steroid derived from testosterone that has been used to stimulate hematopoiesis in various bone marrow failure syndromes. The combination is being evaluated to determine if the addition of an anabolic steroid can enhance the clinical efficacy and safety of TPO receptor agonists in the MDS population, particularly for those with severe thrombocytopenia who are at high risk of bleeding.
