HFN cell therapy (GABAergic) is an autologous cell therapy candidate being developed by Skin2Neuron for the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. The therapy utilizes the company's proprietary HFN (Hair Follicle-derived Neural) platform to generate neural precursor cells from a patient's own hair follicles. These precursors are then differentiated into GABAergic neurons, which are characterized by the expression of Glutamate decarboxylase 67 (GAD67). The primary therapeutic goal is to restore or supplement GABAergic inhibitory signaling in the brain, addressing the GABAergic dysfunction that is a hallmark of schizophrenia and related psychiatric conditions. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
