Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hibiscus sabdariffa + Centella asiatica is an investigational composite herbal medicine being developed by Casa Espirita Terra de Ismael in collaboration with the University of Sao Paulo for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. The therapy consists of a combination of powdered dry Hibiscus sabdariffa (200 mg) and a tincture of Centella asiatica (40 drops), administered twice daily. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 3 clinical trial to compare its efficacy in increasing hemoglobin levels against standard iron sulphate treatment. The study also aims to determine how genetic polymorphisms in iron-related enzymes and transporters, specifically Divalent Metal Transporter 1 (DMT1) and Ferroportin, influence the therapeutic response to this herbal intervention.
