Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hibiscus sabdariffa + propolis is an oral combination product developed by Novintethical Pharma as a co-adjuvant therapy for the treatment of cystitis and urinary tract infections (UTIs). The formulation combines an extract from the Hibiscus sabdariffa (roselle) plant with propolis, a natural resinous substance produced by honeybees. It is intended for use alongside standard antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin, to enhance therapeutic efficacy and alleviate symptoms. The product's mechanism of action involves the acidification of urine, which inhibits the growth of common uropathogens like Escherichia coli, and provides anti-inflammatory and mucoprotective benefits to the bladder lining. It has been evaluated in Phase 3 randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials in Italy to evaluate its safety and efficacy in adults with culture-confirmed cystitis.
