Overview

**High molecular weight hyaluronic acid + low molecular weight hyaluronic acid** is a combination formulation of hyaluronic acid polymers differentiated by size. This product leverages the distinct properties of each molecular weight for synergistic benefit. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HMW-HA) typically forms a surface film, providing immediate hydration, plumping effects, and a moisture barrier, but exhibits limited skin penetration. Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (LMW-HA) penetrates deeper into the skin layers, promoting longer-lasting hydration and potentially stimulating healing processes. Used topically in skin care, this multiscale formulation aims to deliver both instant surface hydration and lasting moisturization throughout epi- and dermal layers. In medical contexts, hyaluronic acid of varying molecular weights is used for intra-articular injection in osteoarthritis and wound healing, with HMW-HA showing evidence for pain relief and improved function. The mechanism of action is primarily through water retention, tissue hydration, barrier reinforcement, and modulation of cell behavior in skin and joints.
