Overview

Histamine + prostaglandin D2 is a combination of two endogenous mediators released primarily from mast cells during allergic and inflammatory responses. Histamine acts mainly through its receptors (H1, H2, H3) to induce vasodilation, increased vascular permeability (wheal and erythema), pruritus, and bronchoconstriction. Prostaglandin D2 (PGD2), the major cyclooxygenase metabolite of arachidonic acid in mast cells, exerts effects via the DP (PTGDR) and CRTH2 receptors. PGD2 can enhance basophil histamine release at nanomolar concentrations[3], activate eosinophils[4], contribute to airway inflammation in asthma[4][5], and modulate cutaneous blood flow when administered with histamine[1]. The combination has been studied experimentally for their additive or modulatory effects on skin reactivity but is not an approved pharmaceutical product or marketed drug formulation.
