Overview

HIV CTL MEP is an investigational therapeutic vaccine candidate developed by Wyeth (now a subsidiary of Pfizer) for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine is composed of a multi-epitope peptide (MEP) construct designed to stimulate human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) responses by presenting conserved viral epitopes to CD8+ T cells. To enhance its immunogenicity, the vaccine is formulated with two adjuvants: RC529-SE, a synthetic Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist, and recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). It was evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials in HIV-positive adults on stable highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) to determine its safety and ability to expand the cellular immune response against the virus.
