Overview

HIV p24 + MF59 is an experimental recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by Chiron Corporation for the prevention or treatment of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine consists of a recombinant version of the HIV-1 p24 capsid protein, which is a highly conserved internal protein of the virus, formulated with the MF59 adjuvant. MF59 is a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion designed to enhance the magnitude and breadth of the immune response by recruiting and activating antigen-presenting cells at the injection site. Clinical evaluation, primarily in Phase I trials, focused on assessing the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of the vaccine in healthy, HIV-seronegative adults, specifically aiming to induce p24-specific humoral and cellular immune responses.
