HNG-P(DEGMA-co-IA12) is an experimental hybrid nanogel (HNG) platform designed for stimuli-responsive drug delivery. It consists of a mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSN) core covalently integrated with a copolymer shell of di(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (DEGMA) and itaconic acid (IA). The "IA12" designation typically refers to the molar percentage of the acidic co-monomer itaconic acid incorporated into the polymer structure. This hybrid material combines the high loading capacity of mesoporous silica with the thermo- and pH-responsive properties of the organic polymer. The nanogel undergoes a volume phase transition in response to environmental changes, allowing for controlled release of encapsulated payloads. Preclinical research has demonstrated its biocompatibility in fibroblast (NIH 3T3) and prostate cancer (LNCaP) cell lines, as well as its efficacy in delivering chemotherapeutic agents like camptothecin to inhibit cancer cell growth.
