Honey in Orabase (1:1)

Honey in Orabase (1:1) is an investigational topical mucoadhesive paste formulation developed for the treatment of symptomatic oral lichen planus (OLP), particularly the atrophic and erosive forms. Developed by researchers at Dar Al Uloom University, the formulation consists of a 50% concentration of honey blended with Orabase, a protective adhesive paste base. Honey serves as the active therapeutic agent, providing natural anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties that facilitate wound healing and alleviate pain. The Orabase component acts as a mucoadhesive vehicle, ensuring prolonged contact of the honey with the oral mucosa. Clinical trials have evaluated this natural product-based therapy against standard corticosteroid treatments, such as triamcinolone acetonide 0.1%, to assess its efficacy in reducing lesion size and improving patient quality of life.
