House dust mite allergen extract is a biologic drug used for the treatment of allergic rhinitis (with or without conjunctivitis) caused by sensitization to house dust mites. It contains a mixture of allergenic proteins derived from Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (the most common household dust mites)[1][4][5]. The drug is available as sublingual tablets (Odactra in the US, Acarizax in Canada) and as standardized injectable extracts for diagnostic and therapeutic use[1][3][8]. Its mechanism involves exposing the immune system to controlled amounts of house dust mite allergens to induce immunological tolerance. This process increases IgG antibodies that compete with IgE antibodies responsible for allergic reactions and may also modulate T-cell responses[5]. The primary indication is allergic rhinitis due to house dust mites.
