HP3 + HP3.1 + ES19 is an experimental trivalent recombinant subunit vaccine candidate designed for the prevention of histomonosis (blackhead disease) in poultry, particularly turkeys and chickens. Developed by researchers at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, the vaccine targets the protozoan parasite *Histomonas meleagridis*. It consists of three recombinant proteins: HP3 and its variant HP3.1, which are putative cell surface proteins identified on the parasite, and ES19, a protein found within the parasite's excretory-secretory products. These antigens were selected based on their immunogenicity and potential to elicit a protective immune response. The vaccine is typically produced using *Escherichia coli* expression systems and is administered via intramuscular injection. Research indicates that the combination of these antigens aims to stimulate both humoral and cellular immunity to reduce the clinical severity and mortality rates associated with *H. meleagridis* infections, which currently lack effective authorized treatments in many regions.
